There are two things I find true about Miguel Mendez: One, he writes love songs and, two, they're kinda fucked up love songs; like, quite literally, some of the stuff he writes is kinda shitty, but he’s so calmly serious about it all that I can't help but be mysteriously attracted to his brand of bullshit on some level, and also, perhaps unfortunately, totally relate to it. It’s a kind of rhetorical trick that I fully fall for every time.

The types of music I release on Deathbomb are insanely diverse, so having a singer/songwriter in the mix isn't shocking, but I think for many Deathbomb fans Miguel is a bit of an odd-man-out on a label known for embracing sonic jagged edges. My take though, is that Miguel's music really isn't that different from the sort of raw and challenging artists Deathbomb is best known for; it’s just that, for him, that element is embodied in his lyrics, his vocal delivery, his comic timing and inherently crappy attitude.

Miguel has always brought a lyricism that feels just as raw to me as any noise act, and yet, for as rude as his lyrics can be, they never seem mean. He’s always just earnest enough to feel honestly sad and trolls sincerity enough to make you laugh. I think the type of love we all want is definitely not what Miguel seems to be obsessed with but it is, for sure, of a type we all recognize.

'The Summer When Everything Sucked’ is Miguel's 4th album and 3rd for the Deathbomb Arc label who have released acts such as Clipping (Sub Pop), 3 time Grammy winners, The Crossing, and Fatboi Sharif.

If you are a Deathbomb 10th wave subscriber, this will be your 2nd release.
